City University of Hong Kong (CityU) Student Development Services (SDS) initiated the Service Leadership Training Programme (SLTP) with the objective of developing a positive attitude and a service-driven mindset in students. Participants received training in the core principles of service leadership according Robert Greenleaf that ‘puts others first’ on everyday practice.
SLTP provides a platform for students to develop planning, organizational and leadership skills in the service of others and to learn to work with teammates from various academic disciplines and collaborate with people from all walks of lives.
The programme primarily aim is to enable students to redefine their roles in a positive way, analyse issues from a wider perspective and reflect on their life purposes through service learning experiences. As a result, the programme can install the good work attitude, communication and a service-driven mindset into our students.
In the year of 2021-22, over 200 students were recruited and different service teams were formed to deliver different services. In the year (2022-23), over 240 Service Leaders committed in eight service teams: Food Friendster, Wellness Transformer, Wise Walker, Imagineer, Animal Buddies, The Forgotten Side of The City, Cultural Walker and Friendly Neighbour.
